As we near the kick-off to the holiday season later this month, it’s noteworthy to point out that our town was recognized as having one of the six best Christmas markets in the world.
That’s right, an article last winter in “German World,” a German/English magazine published in Los Angeles, listed Hermann’s two weekends of Kristkindl Markt as tops in the U.S. The other two mentioned were the Christkindl Market in Denver, Colo., and the Christkindlmarket in Chicago.
The article, first forwarded to me by Michael Forster of Hermann, sings praises of our picturesque town, said one of the most authentic and most famous German-style Christmas markets in the U.S. happens in our little town the first two weekends in December.
In the same story, Pea Ridge Forest Christmas Tree Farm on Highway 94 in Warren County was mentioned for a time-honored tradition, where families ride out to a field on a wagon lined with hay bales, to pick out and cut the perfect tree. The Rood family is gearing up for a busy time of year.
