The 2014 Fourth of July parade route will be the same as in previous years, starting at West 8th Street and Washington Street weaving through town and ending at East First and Gutenberg Street.
The Hermann Police Department and assorted volunteers will have the streets temporarily blocked to traffic during the parade which is expected to last approximately an hour. Attendees may observe the parade along Washington Street, West 6th Street, Market Street, East 4th Street, Schiller Street and East 1st Street. The parade will follow the route that starts at the elementary school and ends at First and Gutenburg.
The parade will start at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, but parade entries should report to the staging area at West Eighth and Washington at 3:30 p.m.
Police Chief Frank Tennant said on the river front, like the last couple of years, Wharf Street will be closed to all vehicle traffic from Gutenburg Street to Schiller Street for the event. Riverfront Park will be closed the majority of the day for the events and Wharf Street will be closed for vehicles except for the event organizers and vendors after 6:00 p.m.
“There will be concessions made for those with handicapped parking permits to access the appropriate parking places within the park on a first come basis,” said Tennant. “Those wishing to ramp their watercraft should do so before 6:00 p.m. and expect that they will not be able to exit the park onto Wharf Street until after the completion of the event.
Tennant said attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and set anywhere along the south side of Wharf Street or in Riverfront Park to enjoy the fireworks.
