Fall sports practices to start Aug. 4 at Hermann High School

All athletes who plan to participate in Fall sports at Hermann High School need to be ready to report for practice on Monday, August 4.
Coaches for cheer, cross country, football, softball and volleyball are making plans for preseason practices.
Athletes interested in participating in cross country should report to the high school track by 7:00 a.m. on Monday, August 4. The team will begin running promptly at 7 o’clock that morning. The cross country season kicks off at New Haven on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 8:30 a.m.
The football team will begin practices on August 4, at 8:00 a.m. at Bearcat Memorial Stadium. The preseason football practices are set to run from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The Bearcats will once again host a Preseason Scrimmage on Friday, August 15, at 7:00 p.m. at Bearcat Memorial Stadium. Participants in the scrimmage will be Cuba, Hermann and Montgomery County. The varsity football team will open the regular season at Montgomery County on Friday, August 22, at 7 p.m.
The softball team will also begin practicing on August 4. Girls interested in trying out for the softball team should report to Dick Ochsner Field in the city park at 8:00 a.m. Monday. Practice times will be 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The softball team will play in a preseason scrimmage at St. James on August 16. The varsity team will open the season at the New Haven Classic on August 23.
Tryouts for volleyball will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 4 in the HHS gym. The tryouts will run from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The volleyball teams will open their season at Montgomery County on August 25, at 6:00 p.m.
Cheer practice will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. starting on Monday, August 4. Cheer practice will be held at the high school.
Athletes are reminded that they must have a current physical and insurance form on file with their coach before they will be allowed to participate in practices.
All athletes are reminded that fluid intake is extremely important as practices begin. Coaches recommend drinking plenty of water before, during, and after practices (17-20 ounces of water should be consumed two to three hours before exercise if possible). Another 7-10 ounces of water should be consumed in the 10-20 minutes prior to exercise.
In general, while exercising, the athlete should drink 7-10 ounces of water every 10-20 minutes. Within two hours of exercising, the athlete should drink enough fluid to replace any weight loss from exercise. Approximately 20-24 ounces of water or sports drinks per pound of weight loss should be consumed. In addition to adequate fluid intake, athletes are also reminded to keep coaches informed if they are not feeling well during practice.
