The Brush & Palette Club’s annual summer fundraiser is set for Sunday, Aug. 17, in the Upper City Park at the Rotunda. Restoration of the Hermann City Cemetery’s most historic gravesites is the project that will benefit from the fundraiser.
The goal for this event is $15,000 as that is the amount still needed to match the $30,000 donation offered by an anonymous donor earlier this year. During the period June 1 to September 1, The Brush & Palette Club was challenged to raise $30,000 to match the potential donation.
The August 17 event will be highlighted by a St. Paul UCC Handbell Choir Concert at 2 p.m. The concert will feature music of the seasons. Part of the proceeds of a free-will offering to be received during the concert will benefit cemetery restoration.
The ice cream social and silent auction will begin at 1 p.m. At 2:00 the concert will begin, and a live auction will follow at 3:00. The silent auction will run throughout the afternoon.
Fundraising for and restoration of the Hermann City Cemetery started in 2011 with approximately $75,000 in restoration work having been completed by York Cemetery Service to date. In addition the $35,000 restoration of the Eitzen crypt by the Eitzen family, The Brush & Palette Club, and friends was completed in 2013.
By reaching the $30,000 goal by September 1, matched by the $30,000 potential donation, The Brush & Palette Club will be able to continue the work of restoration, while taking a hiatus from ongoing fundraising in the community for the project.
Individuals or businesses wishing to donate items or services for the Sunday-afternoon auction may contact Lois Puchta at 573-486-2633 or Red Barn at 573-486-5544 or 486-1012. In addition, tickets for a $2,500 cash raffle may be purchased at Missouri Bank, First Bank, Swiss Meat and Sausage Co., the Advertiser-Courier office, American Family Insurance, The Red Barn and Hermann City office. Ticket price is $25 for six.
An opportunity for item preview and pre-bidding will be available at the Gasconade County Historical Society Community Room at 311 Schiller Street on Thursday and Friday, August 14 and 15, from 1-5 p.m. and Saturday, August 16, from 9 to 12.
Those unable to support attainment of the $15,000 goal through attendance at the August 17 event may send tax-deductible contributions to The Brush & Palette Club, P.O. Box 145, Hermann, MO 65041.
