Mayor: Hermann has no choice but to get out of MoPEP contract

Hermann will be out from under its contract with the Missouri Public Energy Pool (MoPEP) in less than a year and buying electricity at a cheaper rate, so says Mayor Tom Shabel.

The legal firm hired by the Board of Aldermen at its last meeting — Curtis, Heinz, Garrett and O’Keefe, P.C. — is “chomping at the bit” to begin working on scrapping the city’s contract with MoPEP, Shable told the Advertiser-Courier late last week.

“It’s terribly important to get  out” of the agreement, which Shabel says is costing the city’s residents too much money and is prompting new arrivals to look outside the Hermann city limits for housing.
