Pre-season high school football scrimmages will be held all across the state next Friday, Aug. 15, and Hermann High School will once again host a jamboree.
This year, Montgomery County¬† and Cuba will join the Bearcats in this event that Hermann has been hosting for the past 10 years. It’s always been a four-team event, but Wright City dropped out this year.
The pre-season scrimmages at Bearcat Memorial Stadium will start at 7 p.m. Hermann and Cuba will lead off the scrimmage, followed by Montgomery County and Hermann, and then Montgomery County vs. Cuba.
Like all the teams in Missouri, the Bearcats’s first day of pre-season drills started Monday, Aug. 4. The Missouri State High School Activities Association requires that each athlete must have nine days of practice prior to the date of the scrimmage.
This is the first year of the two-year cycle for district assignments. Hermann is in Class 2, District 5. Other schools in that football district are Brentwood, Lutheran North of St. Louis, St. Charles Lutheran, Maplewood-Richmond Heights, Principia, Transportation and Law High School of St. Louis and Trinity Catholic High School of St. Louis.
The jamborees allow teams to scrimmage against opponents in a controlled environment.
This will be the first live action against another opponent for all schools in the jamboree.
Jamborees have become the traditional tune-up in Missouri for the start of the regular high school season the following weekend.
While Montgomery County and Cuba are not in Hermann’s district, they happen to be the Bearcats’ first two opponents this season. Hermann will open its season on Friday, Aug. 22, at Montgomery County, and the following Friday night, Aug. 29, the Bearcats will be home to entertain the Cuba Wildcats.
