Hermann Bearcats open season in a big way over Montgomery County
Montgomery County’s football stadium felt like a sauna, but the Hermann Bearcats never wilted in their 61-12 season opener against the Wildcats last Friday night.
The hot, steamy weather forced most games in central Missouri to be moved back to a 7:30 p.m. start, and it didn’t take long for the Bearcats to unload a stable of talented offensive weapons.
“I was pleased with our performance for the first game,” said Coach Andy Emmons of Hermann. “We tried to keep our kids fresh; played a lot of kids because of the heat. Our kids are in good shape, and I think it showed.”
Although he missed the jamboree on Friday before the season opener, sophomore quarterback Garrett Leimkuehler answered the bell last Friday at Montgomery City and had a stellar performance. He scored four touchdowns, rushed seven times for 91 yards, and completed 5 of 8 passes for 168 yards and two TDs.
