Seventh and eighth graders at St. George School in Hermann participated in an “eye-opening” 24-hour event which included fasting, prayer activities, and discussion about hunger in our world.
The students set a goal of $350 and asked for donations from the parishioners to help with their project. All proceeds will benefit the Hermann Area Food Pantry and the Diocesan Catholic Charities Agency.
The students said the fasting was relatively easy while at school because of the support, but found it was difficult away from school. In the end they realized that it would only be 24 hours and then they could eat, but they remembered so many people in the world don’t get a big meal every day.
All the students agreed it was a learning opportunity they would not soon forget! The students exceeded their goal and raised a total of $2,212.87.
The local Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary presented the 7th and 8th graders with a check in the amount of $500 towards their fasting project after several students and teachers cleaned the monument “In Memory of the Unborn Children,” located on Highway 19 south of Hermann.
