Hermann Lumber Company is marking a milestone this week when its observes the 90th anniversary of the business, one of the oldest in Hermann.
The Baumstark family, now in its fourth generation at what is now Hermann Lumber Do-It Center, has been there for most of those 90 years, starting with the late Albert Baumstark. He passed the torch down to his son, Charlie, who worked there for over 40 years. Now Charlie’s son, Danny, is now president of the company, and three of his daughters are involved in the lumber yard business–two working in Hermann and one in New Haven.
A 90th anniversary of the lumber company, started in 1922 on Market Street, will be a two-day celebration, and Megan (Baumstark) Stiers has been busy planning events. The Baumstarks are inviting everyone to stop by the store for hot dogs, chips, popcorn and soft drinks.
There will be hourly drawings both days, and a grand prize drawing will be a gas grill. Youngsters will get nail aprons.
