Health Department flu shots available in various forms

The Gasconade County Health Department will be offering seasonal flu vaccines for adults, children, and infants 6 months and older.
Clinics will start the first week in October. Hermann clinics will be held each Thursday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and the Owensville satellite office hours will be held every Wednesday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
The vaccines will available in the following forms:
“THE FLU SHOT”
• What has been traditionally used for many years.
• Made with inactivated (killed) flu virus.
• Given by needle into the muscle.
• Used for persons over 6 months of age and older.
HIGH DOSE FLU SHOT
• Contains a higher dose of flu vaccine, which may lead to greater protection against the flu. Older persons do not have the same level of response to flu vaccine as younger persons.
• Made with inactivated (killed) flu virus.
• Given by needle into the muscle.
• Only for persons who are over the age of 65.
INTRADERMAL
• Made with inactivated (killed) flu virus.
• Given into the skin by a tiny needle.
• Only for persons aged 18 years to 64 years.
NASAL SPRAY
• Made with weakened live flu virus.
• Given with a mist sprayed into your nose.
• Pregnant women cannot receive.
• Approved for healthy people between the ages of 2 years thru 49 years.
Cost is $25; except high dose vaccine is $35.
Medicaid and Medicare Part B will be billed. Private insurances, including other Medicare plans, will not be billed.
The second dose for children under 8 who have not two doses of flu vaccine since July, 2010 will be $15.
