Hermann school district gets high state ranking

By staff writer

A website that rates school districts on test scores has ranked the Gasconade County R-1 School District 43rd out of 503 districts in the state. The website is Schooldigger.com.
Superintendent Dr. Chris Neale shared that ranking with members of the school board last Thursday. “It is not intended for school use, but for parents nationwide wanting to relocate,” said Neale, who heard it from the superintendent of the Lindbergh School District. “That is a tremendous thing. It is top 8 percent. I am proud of  that.”
Schooldigger.com ranks schools based on the most recently reported test scores. It takes all schools that have test scores in math and English, and averages those scores across all grades, then adds them together to make a combined score.
The website only ranks schools that are designated as “regular” elementary, middle school or high schools by the U.S. Department of Education. Schools labeled as “other” or “alternative” are not included. Private schools are not listed since they are usually not required to administer state tests.
