Hermann’s volleyball team ended the regular season last Thursday, winning a spirited three-set match from Borgia. The scores were 29-27, 23-25, 25-20.
In her 33 years as Hermann’s head coach, Linda Lampkin said she can’t recall her teams ever defeating Borgia three times in one season.
The Lady Bearcats won twice against the Lady Knights earlier this season in the 57th Hermann Invitational Tournament. They were in the same pool, then met in the championship match.
The first set was crucial, and Borgia, leading 27-26, was on the verge of winning it. Hermann scored the next three points on a kill by Emilie Diebal, a block by Kirsten Leimkuehler and an ace serve by Natalie Witte.
Hermann rode its big hitter, junior Jamie Gleeson, who kept pounding the ball and finished with 14 kills in 34 attacks. She also had five blocks and six digs.
