Freshman Grant Uthlaut gave Hermann its highest place winner in years when he finished second in the Four Rivers Conference cross country meet at Owensville last Tuesday.
His time was 18:07.06, not his best time of the season, but a respectable one on a challenging course, according to Coach Matt Mueller of the Bearcats.
Andrew Riddell, Bearcat junior, was Hermann’s second finisher. He placed 25th out of 50 runners with a time of 20:15.12 over the 5k course.
Trevor Hartman, another Hermann freshman, placed 27th in 20:34.
Coach Mueller had a full team entered in the conference meet. Senior Jon Baumstark finished 39th in 21:19.05, while sophomore Dalton Gillig was 43rd in 22:17.75.
The top 10 boys and the top 15 girls are all-conference medalists.
St. Clair’s Austin Gotway was the meet medalist with a time of 17:39.62.
In the girls’ varsity meet, Heather Hingst, a Hermann freshman, was 34th with a time of 25:18.23, and sophomore Kaitlyn Peacock of Hermann was 36th in 25:59.81.

Katrina Hagedorn and Donnita Johnson also competed for Hermann. Hagedorn’s time was 30:14.45, while Johnson finished in 32:32.49.
Lyndsay Hardin of St. Clair was the meet winner in 20:58.75.
The Bearcats will turn their attention to the district meet on Saturday at Bowling Green.
