The Community Christmas program is starting to buy toys for local children for Christmas, and is once again asking for help.
This local Christmas Program was started a few years ago and has been providing Christmas presents for children from 90-100 local families each year.
“It is heartbreaking to imagine what it would be like to have no gifts or toys at Christmas,” said Dawn Grosse, school-based social worker in the Gasconade County R-1 School District. “The Community Christmas Program was started to make sure as many needy children as possible receive at least a few gifts. Sadly, there are many families who cannot afford to purchase toys, clothes, or books at Christmas, so it is our hope to make their holiday special through this gift of giving.”
The Hermann community has been supportive in past years, but with the continuing economic downturn, it is expected that there will be more families to provide for this year.
This year, there are two ways to contribute–one is to “adopt” an entire family and the other is to give toys or a cash donation to purchase gifts for the children. Examples of the types of gifts needed are dolls and doll clothes, trucks, cars, Barbies, CDs, CD players, make-up for teenagers, hair brushes and hair ties, baby toys, books, games, bikes and tricycles.
