Donations are still needed for “Thanksgiving Turkey Challenge”

The Hermann Community Food Pantry’s Turkey Challenge has received several generous contributions, but donations are down this year, according to local food pantry board members.
More food is needed in order to reach the goal of providing a Thanksgiving dinner for each family supported by the Food Pantry.
The Turkey Challenge began four years ago when an anonymous citizen donated turkeys for Thanksgiving and challenged the Hermann community to match this donation with food such as boxes of stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables, biscuit mix, etc. needed to complete the Thanksgiving meal.
This year the staff at the food pantry wanted to make matching contributions easier for the community to donate by pre-ordering the Thanksgiving food. This way, all anyone has to do is let the food pantry know what food they would like to donate, and the food pantry will order it with the regular food order and have it stocked. The patrons then just write a check for the food purchase to the food panty to cover their donation.
Of course, dropping off 100 cans of corn is always welcome, too – we’re just trying to make it easier on our patrons” said Kathy Ham, President of the Hermann Community Food Pantry.
The Hermann Community Food Pantry is a volunteer organization. All work to run the pantry is done by volunteers and all the food distributed is provided by or purchased with donations from individuals, churches, organizations and businesses in the community. All cash donations are used to purchase food for the community or supplies needed to run the pantry.
