The opening date for filing for city offices in the April 2, 2013 election is Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Monday night the Hermann Board of Aldermen approved an ordinance setting the date and time for filing for the three offices that will be open.
The vacancy for the mayor’s position occurred when current Mayor Larry Miskel was elected northern district commissioner of Gasconade County in the November election. He is serving the first year of the two-year term in which he was elected last April.
Miskel, who was elected to three terms, tendered his formal resignation in executive session at Monday night’s city council meeting. He will be sworn in as northern district commissioner at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 28, at the courthouse.
The new mayor will serve one year to fill Miskel unexpired term.
There will also be an election for an alderman in Ward 1 and Ward 2. The two-year terms of Bruce Cox in Ward 1, and Brian Chorley in Ward 2 are up in April.
Candidates for those three city offices can start filing at 8 a.m. on Dec. 11 at the city clerk’s office at city hall. The closing date for filing will be Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013.
In other action during Monday’s closed session, the board of alderman removed the “interim” status from Frank Tennant’s position as city administrator. Tennant was appointed interim city administrator earlier this year, and will serve in that capacity as well as continuing as chief of police.
