Dolores Grannemann, Hermann city clerk, and Jessica Zeiss, a senior at Hermann High School, received awards from the Meramec Regional Planning Commission for their contributions to the community during MRPC’s annual dinner held at Hermann Hill Village on Nov. 8.
Each year, MRPC honors residents of the eight-county Meramec Region who volunteer their time, talents and support to their communities and charitable causes.
Zeiss received an MRPC Outstanding Youth Volunteer award for her volunteer efforts in Hermann and beyond. Her involvement includes a service trip to Joplin for tornado recovery efforts and two to New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts, involvement in the Gasconade R-1 School district Backpack Program, the “I Can” school-wide character project, volunteering for Vacation Bible School at Church of the Risen Savior and Hermann Food Pantry. She also serves as a student advisor to the Gasconade R-1 School board and as a lector at church services.
Grannemann received a Distinguished Service Award honoring her service to the City of Hermann. She has dedicated her career to the city, its citizens and its employees and will retire after 37 years of service on Dec. 31.
During that time, Grannemann has worked under the administration of 10 mayors and dozens of aldermen. She managed the city budget process without any major audit issues and administered many state and federal grants with the upmost of accountability.
In addition to her service as city clerk, Grannemann has given much of her time to volunteer pursuits including several historic preservation projects, membership in the Brush and Palette club and assisting with fundraising for tombstone restorations in the Herman City Cemetery.
Award winners are selected by the MRPC External Relations committee after being nominated by an MRPC board member. Grannemann and Zeiss were both nominated by Hermann Director of Tourism Jim Grebing, who represents the City of Hermann on the MRPC board.
