Hermann girls trip Bowling Green to win Montgomery championship

Hermann’s girls held off Bowling Green’s second half charge last Friday to win their second straight Montgomery County Basketball Tournament title and third in the last four years.
Karrine Lane sank six straight free throws in the last 45 seconds to secure a 50-41 win over the Bobcats in the championship game. Until then, the Lady Bearcats’ accuracy at the foul line nearly did them in. They had made just 4 of 10 during a one-minute span late in the fourth quarter when the Bobcats were bearing down on them.
“It’s not like we don’t shoot them every night in practice,” said Coach Todd Anderson of the Bearcats. “We’re actually a pretty good free throw shooting team, but we’ve struggled there so far.”
Hermann was pretty steady in the first half. Jamie Gleeson, 5-10 junior, hit a 3-pointer with just over a minute left in the opening quarter, and the Lady Bearcats had a 14-6 lead.
They held a 24-19 halftime lead, then opened up a 12-point advantage early in the third quarter. Tesla Ruediger nailed a 3-pointer from the side and Lane scored on a breakaway layup, giving Hermann a 31-19 edge with 6:10 left in the third quarter.
