Hermann High School students are organizing a big benefit to start a scholarship to honor a former HHS student who died last December in an auto accident.
A 10-person committee is planning a pork steak and bratwurst dinner on Thursday, Dec. 27, when the Hermann boys and girls basketball teams host Versailles.
The proceeds will provide funds for the Natalie Nicole Knudsen Memorial Scholarship. The students want to award their initial scholarship for a graduating senior this spring, 2013.
Natalie was active in school clubs and was a member of athletic teams at HHS. She was killed in December 2011 while driving to school.
The committee, made up mostly of Natalie’s classmates who are juniors this year, said tickets for the dinner will be available in advance at various local businesses. Donations are also accepted for the scholarship fund.
Students, who have been meeting during “Bearcat Time” at the high school, already have $1,400 in a scholarship account, having held small fundraisers at the school. They sold head bands and also received donations.
The pork steak supper will start on 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 27 before the Hermann-Versailles girls’ basketball game. The boys teams from the two schools will play after the girls game. The dinner will be served through halftime of the boys games.
In addition to pork steaks and brats, sides will include cole slaw, baked beans, chips, soft drinks and desserts.
Tickets for the dinner are $8 for adults and $4 for children under 10.
You can buy tickets in advance by calling 486-5425. They are available at Calvin’s Distributing, Save-A-Lot, Loutre Market, Gleeson’s Landscaping, People’s Savings Bank, Hermann; and Shear Connection in New Haven.
