Freshman Shelby Winkelmann of Hermann led the No. 23-ranked Central Missouri Jennies with 42 points in an 84-63 win over No. 21 Emporia State (Kan.) Saturday afternoon in Warrensburg.
Winkelmann’s 42-point performance is the third-highest total in Jennies basketball history, and the highest total scored by any Jennies player in the history of the Multipurpose Building. She made 16 of 19 field goals and was 2 for 2 from behind the 3-point line, in addition to making 8 of 11 free throws. Winkelmann came within four points of tieing an MIAA single game record.
She also collected 11 rebounds, picking up her second double-double of the season.
The Jens extended their lead to 18 points midway through the second half as Winkelmann scored nine straight points, putting the Jennies in front 62-44 with 9:25 to play.
Winkelmann, the No. 2 all-time leading prep scorer (3,226) in Missouri, is leading the Jennies with a 19.4 points a game scoring average. She transferred to UCM last spring from the University of Nebraska where she played volleyball for the Huskers.
