The Hermann High School Concert Band competition season began on October 9 this year. As it did last year, Hermann High School represented extremely well this year.
With the best marching season in a very long time under their belt, several members of the Hermann Bearcat Brigade hit the practice room in hopes of being named to the All-District band. After a night full of auditions from high schools all over the Central Missouri District, seven of Hermann’s students were named to the All-District band.
The students are Donnita Johnson, Shayley Head, Heather Hingst and Bryce Schuetz.
Trevor Hartman, Nora Purdy and Marvin Lewis took top honors in the Honor Band.  The next level of advanced competition happens at the state level, where on December 1, several of Hermann’s students competed with the best musicians in the state of Missouri. Marvin Andrew Lewis, a senior trumpet player, auditioned against roughly 150 top trumpet players that day. He beat out nearly all of them to not only secure his second year in a row of All-State level performance, but also a nod as All-State Honorable Mention Jazz Band as well.  This places him in the top eight high school trumpet players in the state, and is already providing him with many college offers.
“The music department is proud of all of the students’ accomplishments at all levels, but is especially proud of Marvin right now for the years of dedication to his art,” said Will Zwikelmaier, band director at HHS.
Andrew will rehearse and perform with the All-State ensemble in late January at Tan-Tar-A resort at the Lake of the Ozarks.
