After a slow start, Hermann made two valiant comeback efforts only to fall short against a hot-shooting St. Clair team, 84-72, in a Four Rivers Conference basketball last Friday at Hermann.
Trailing 41-28 at the half, the Bearcats whittled the deficit to two points in the third quarter, with most of the scoring coming from reserve Matt Hug and starters Craig Winkelmann, Jon Baumstark and Josh Schannuth.
Hug came off the bench to give the Bearcats some offensive spark in the first quarter, hitting a pair of 3-pointers and scoring eight of Hermann’s 16 points in the opening 8 minutes.
Schannuth, a 6-3 sophomore, had his best performance of the season for the Bearcats, scoring a season-high 11 points and grabbing five rebounds.
