Bell ringing at the German School is New Year’s Eve

Historic Hermann, Inc. will again host the ringing of the school bell at the stroke of midnight on Monday, Dec. 31
This tradition that has been going on for over a half-century in Hermann at the German School.
Doors at the German School Museum will open at 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 31. The countdown will start at approximately 30 seconds before the hour.
Anyone who would like to participate is invited to stop by the German School and take their turn ringing the bell after the town clock strikes midnight.
Light refreshments will be served in the Legacy Room.

It has long been reported that the tradition of ringing the bell started over a half century ago when the late Mayor, Bill Coe, Kermit Baecker and some friends decided to walk up to the German School on New Year’s Eve and ring the bell. They had gathered at the mayor’s house on East Fourth Street.
