Mark Neuner, who serves as Boy Scouts of America Troop 116 Committee chairman in Hermann, recently completed Wood Badge adult leader training. He received the special uniform items that identify a graduate of the program during a presentation at the Troop 116 meeting on Monday, December 10.
Great Rivers Council Wood Badge Program course director Cheryl Cobb of Jefferson City, and Mark Asher, who served as Troop Guide for the course, traveled to Hermann to make the presentation, commonly called a “beading.”
Neuner began the course in 2011. Among the requirements, he designed and executed a specific personal service project for BSA, known as a ticket.
Wood Badge was implemented by Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the English founder of the Scouting movement. Originally, it was devoted entirely to mastering Scoutcraft outdoor skills, but now involves advanced training for adult leaders, designed to enhance contemporary leadership skill and develop more effective Scouters.
The Wood Badge program gives participants a greater understanding of Scouting aims and methods, while developing true Scout Spirit.
It is anticipated that leaders who complete Wood Badge training will continue to work actively in the Scouting program.
