Farewell to long-time city clerk

The new year brings new faces and farewells at the Hermann city office building.
Long-time city clerk Dolores Grannemann retired Dec. 31 after 38 years of employment, and Mayor Larry Miskel is moving over to the courthouse to assume his new duties as northern district commissioner of Gasconade County.
As Mrs. Grannemann leaves, let us bid happy trails to her, for she was a valuable employee of our city.
In talking to her in the past week, I did not know that her first job after graduating Hermann High School in 1964 was with the Chase Park Plaza Hotel in St. Louis.
She graduated from high school on a Friday and started working at the Chase the following Monday. That was typical of the work ethic you would expect from the young people who grew up in Hermann. Many left for the city to take employment; some came back and some didn’t.
