After leading the University of Central Missouri offense during the first eight games of the season, freshman Shelby Winkelmann suffered a season-ending injury on the Jennies’ Las Vegas trip in December. She is scheduled to have surgery on Jan. 23 to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee.
The injury came in the first 5 minutes of the Jennies’ win over Dixie (Utah) State in the Las Vegas Challenge on Dec. 18.
Winkelmann was averaging 17.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
In the game before her injury, Winkelmann scored a record 42 points in a win over 21st ranked Emporia (Kan.) State. She made 16 of 19 field goals in that game and was named conference player of the week.
