There were three new filings for the Hermann city council last week, and one candidate withdrew his name from the mayor’s race.
Dolores Grannemann, who retired at the end of December after 37 years as Hermann’s city clerk, filed for mayor on Wednesday, Jan. 9. The next day, Richard L. Lauer also filed for mayor, making it a three-person race so far. Filing for city office ended at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15.
Earlier, Ronald Van Booven, who is Ward 1 alderman, filed for mayor, which will be for only one year. The candidate who is elected in April will fill out the final year of Larry Miskel’s term. Miskel was elected northern district commissioner of Gasconade County this fall.
Dan Wilson, a former alderman from Ward 2, filed for mayor last Tuesday morning (Jan. 
but withdrew from the race two days later.
Also filing last week for alderman in Ward 1 was Robert C. Howell. He then withdrew from the race Tuesday, Jan. 15. He was seeking the seat currently held by Bruce Cox, who filed on the first day.
Ward 2 alderman Brian Chorley also filed for another term on opening day of the filing period.
Only two persons, Mike Pratte and Dustin Kallmeyer, have filed for school board. Pratte is a current school board member, and Kallmeyer is a first-time candidate. The term of Todd Witthaus also expires in April. Witthaus has not filed. If there are only two candidates for the school board, no election will be necessary.
