Wilford J. Kallmeyer, 85, of Hermann, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013 at Hermann Area District Hospital.
He was born in Hermann on January 29, 1927, a son of the late William and Myrtle (Wohlt) Kallmeyer.
Wilford was a member of Hermann United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir since 1943. He was a member of the Hermann Bridle and Saddle Club, the Missouri River Bridge Corp from 1997 to 2005, a member of the Gasconade County Health Department Board from 1996 to 2002, the Gasconade County Bible Society, was on the Gasconade County 911 Board from 2006 to 2012; a Hermann Jaycees member and a member of the Hermann Fire Department.
He was the mayor of Hermann from 1964 to 1972 and served as an alderman from 1960 to 1964. He then served as the Gasconade County Presiding Commissioner from 1983 to 1995.
In 1947 Wilford started a trucking company with Edwin Schneider which was Kallmeyer & Schneider Trucking. They ran that company until 1952 when Joy Kallmeyer bought out Schneider. Wilford and Joy owned and operated Kallmeyer Trucking until 1996 when it was sold to Wilford’s son, Larry. After selling to his son, Wilford continued to drive a truck until 2010. He also delivered lime to farmers for 17 years from 1993 to 2010 and was one of the co-owners of Kallmeyer-Schroff Auction Service.
Wilford is survived by a son, Larry Kallmeyer and wife, Linda, of Hermann, son Ronald Kallmeyer of Hermann, daughter Tanya Hastings and husband, Mike, of Berger, and son Lonnie Kallmeyer and wife, Sherri, of Huntsville, Mo.; a brother Joy Kallmeyer and wife, Carol, of Hermann, a brother-in-law Lloyd Stock of Hermann; a grandson Dustin Kallmeyer and wife Chelsie of Hermann, granddaughter Danielle Conley and husband, Aaron, of Strafford, Mo., granddaughter Ronna Witthaus and husband, Jonathon, of Hermann, grandson Travis Kallmeyer of Hermann, grandson Jeremy Kallmeyer and wife, Kellie, of Jefferson City, and grandson Ryan Kallmeyer of Denver, Colo.; and by four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and by three sisters, Mae Schneider, Cytha Schroff and Edna Stock.
Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 25, from 2-8 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann.
Funeral services will be held at Hermann United Methodist Church, Hermann, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, with Rev. Bob Seamon officiating and Rev. John Rice co-officiating. Burial will be at Oak Haven Memorial Gardens, Hermann.

Wendell “Metz” Metzler, 86, of Hazelwood, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield.
Mr. Metzler was born in Rhineland on September 4, 1926, a son of the late Orville and Helen (Scholten) Metzler.
He was the husband of Jacqueline Lee (West) Metzler. They were married October 13, 1951 at St. Joseph’s Church, Rhineland. She survives in Hazelwood.
Wendell is also survived by a son, Tom Metzler and wife, Tracy, of Wentzville, daughter Jan Peterson and husband, Tom, of Everett, Wash., son John Metzler and wife, Tina, of High Ridge, Mo., daughter Mary Jane Russell of Hazelwood, son Marty Metzler of St. Louis, and daughter Leanne Metzler of St. Louis; sister Melba Bokermann of Des Peres, Mo., sister Faye Winkelmann of Rhineland, brother, Valerian “Manny” Metzler of Fenton, brother Gerald “Ferd” Metzler of Hermann and Carolyn Metzler of Hermann; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Albert Bokermann and Walter Winkelmann.
Wendell proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Martin’s DePorres Church, Hazelwood, and the Men’s Club. He worked as a superintendent for Catholic Cemeteries of St. Louis for over 35 years. He loved to hunt in his earlier years and later fishing became his favorite hobby.
Visitation was Friday, Jan. 18, at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home in Hermann
Funeral services were held at Church of the Risen Savior, Rhineland, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, with Father Bill Debo officiating.
Burial was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Rhineland.

Robert James “Cap” Romaker, age 86, of Mexico, Mo., passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013 at Audrain Medical Center in Mexico.
Mr. Romaker was born April 28, 1926 at McKittrick, a son of the late Henry Jr. and Mollie (Volk) Romaker.
Robert served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for many years at Hermann Farm Service, then later in life he worked as a farm hand for many area farmers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Robert is survived by a brother, Clyde “Shorty” Romaker of Warrenton; two sisters-in-law, Nellie Romaker of Hermann and Leona Bernice Romaker of Hermann; and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, by brothers Nicholas, Harold, Oran, Joseph and Paul Romaker and sisters Mary Benskin, Frances Romaker, Pauline Webbenmeyer and Dorothy Hoblemann.
Visitation was held Wednesday, Jan. 16, from 9-11 a.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann, where funeral services followed at 11 a.m. Burial was at Loutre Island Cemetery, McKittrick.

John V. Smith, 56, of Jefferson City, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.
He was born in Jefferson City on February 14, 1956, the son of the late Captain Paul and Emily “Mutzie” (Ruediger) Smith.
He worked for the U.S. Navy for several years and later for the Nuclear Power Plant as a security guard. He was a former member of the Hermann Eagles. John loved to paint, make wood carvings and fish.
He is survived by a daughter Cheryl Lockhart and husband, James, of Louisville, Ky., a sister Joan Cadorette of Austin, Texas, a brother Robert Smith and wife, Barbara, of Chaffee, Mo., a sister Paulette Pohlmann and husband, James, of Bay, and a sister, Kay Smith, of Fulton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, June Reinholz.
Visitation was Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home in Hermann.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m. from the funeral home, with Pastor Darrel Deeker officiating.
Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Stolpe.
