Jon Baumstark canned four free throws in the final 22 seconds of overtime, and the Hermann boys escaped with a 54-49 win over Owensville last Friday at Hermann.
Had the Bearcats made their free throws in regulation play, they could have avoided having to go into the extra session to notch their first Four Rivers Conference win in three games.
The previous week in the semifinals of the Hermann Tournament, the Bearcats ran up a 25-point lead enroute an easy win over the Dutchmen. It was a down-to-the-wire battle last Friday.
Unlike the game in the Hermann tourney when the Bearcats knocked down 13 3-pointers and controlled the tempo, Coach Josh Vinyards’ Dutchmen came in with a different game plan this time–slow the game down and limit Hermann’s possessions.
