Sparked by a career-high 22 points from Kirsten Leimkuehler, the Hermann girls won a huge road game Monday night at St. James, defeating the Lady Tigers, 65-53.
The win kept the Lady Bearcats’ hopes alive in the Four Rivers Conference, where they trail Sullivan (4-0) by a game in the standings. Hermann’s lone FRC loss was at Sullivan.
Trailing by seven at the half, Leimkuehler, a 5-11 junior, scored 12 of Hermann’s 19 points in the third quarter and the Lady Bearcats went on to outscore the Tigers 40-21 in the second half.
“She definitely gave us a spark,” said Hermann Coach Todd Anderson, whose team improved to 18-4 overall and 3-1 in the FRC.
Even though the Lady Bearcats were porous at the free throw line, they were able to make shots and pull away in the fourth quarter. They outscored St. James 21-7 in the final eight minutes, despite missing eight of their 15 foul shots.
