Hermann board of aldermen hear options on parkway trees

Hermann’s board of aldermen will study a couple of options on trees that are under electric transmission lines that run down Market Street parkway.
At Monday night’s city council meeting Scott Wagner, chairman of the Hermann Tree Commission, explained to the board the options that were discussed with Central Electric Cooperative, which supplies power to Hermann’s electric system.
Wagner said several trees must be removed, and some are on private property on the east side of Market Street across from the parkway.  Central Electric will notify those residents prior to removing the trees.
But the bigger issue are the five trees on the east side of the parkway, which are in the right-of-way of Central Electric’s transmission lines.
The original plan was to remove all of the trees on the east side of the parkway. Two other proposals, which the city will now consider, are pruning the trees and letting the city take over responsibility of them, and the second is removing all the trees and replanting appropriate trees down the middle of the parkway. Central Electric has forgiven of couple feet of its right-of-way on the second plan, said Wagner.
