Two area residents killed in head-on crash on Highway 100

A head-on collision on Highway 100 near New Haven killed two young Hermann-area peopleĀ  Tuesday evening.
Amanda L. Witthaus, 27, of Hermann and Austin L. VanBooven, 21, of Rhineland, both Hermann High School graduates, were pronounced dead at the scene after their vehicles collided one-tenth of a mile west of Grant School Road in Franklin County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Ms. Witthaus, who was wearing a seat belt, was driving a 2011 Hyundai Elantra and Mr. Van Booven was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu.
According to the Highway Patrol, Van Booven’s eastbound vehicle crossed the center line and struck the Witthaus vehicle head-on. VanBooven was not wearing a seatbelt, the Patrol reported.
The New Haven Ambulance District personnel pronounced Ms. Witthaus dead at the scene at 5:01 p.m. VanBooven was pronounced dead at 5:12 p.m.
