A four-man construction crew from Three Rivers Electric Cooperative left Linn early Friday morning, Feb. 22, to assist with storm restoration efforts at Black River Electric Cooperative in Fredericktown.
Crews from electric cooperatives in southeast Missouri worked through the night to restore power in an area of the state pounded by the winter storm that hit on Thursday, Feb. 21. Ice on lines, falling trees and wind caused outages to peak at around 20,000 for three electric cooperatives. Early Friday morning, there were approximately 4,400 members of Black River Electric who were without power.
“The network of Missouri electric cooperatives has a mutual assistance program coordinated by our statewide organization, the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives. We are pleased to be able to provide assistance to other cooperatives in their time of need. We know that they will reciprocate when we have a great need here,” said General Manager Tom Werdenhause.
Three Rivers benefited from the mutual assistance program during the ice storm of 2007. “Our linemen have been requested to make arrangements to stay in Black River’s service territory for up to five days,” said District Supervisor Russell Troesser.
