Hermann Arts & Crafts Festival is set for this weekend

Hermann’s Oktoberfest got off to a wet start last weekend, with a light rain falling on Saturday morning. But that didn’t hold down the crowd, which was estimated to be a little larger than a year ago.
The front that brought rain on Saturday also delivered a cold snap, and Sunday’s attendance was down considerably as the temperature dipped into the 50s.
This weekend is the annual Arts & Crafts Festival, and after 61 years under the sponsorship of the Hermann Brush & Palette Club, this weekend’s festival on will be presented by the Hermann Area Chamber of Commerce.
This is the 62nd year for the popular fall event, which will be held at Hermann Middle School on Highway 100 West. It’s always one of the biggest October weekends in Hermann.
Hours of the event are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 13.
The event originated in 1951 as a fine art exhibit only with work being displayed on the iron fence surrounding Hermann Elementary School, now the Historic Hermann Museum at the German School at 4th & Schiller in downtown Hermann.
This event features artisans from throughout Missouri and from neighboring states.
Traditional October culinary fare will be available for festival-goers, provided by the Hermann Band Boosters.
A $1 donation is requested at the door to support the Hermann City Cemetery restoration project.
