Due to the loss of instructional time because of inclement weather, Hermann public school students will be in class all day Wednesday, February 12.
Originally, students were scheduled to be dismissed at 1 p.m. on Feb. 12, but with all the days missed due to the bad weather, the Gasconade County R-1 School District’s administration decided to hold classes all day Wednesday.
“These have been challenging weather situations for the district,” said Gary Leimkuehler, deputy superintendent for the R-1 school district.
The full day on Wednesday will not make up any of the days lost due to inclement weather, but will give students some instructional time they have missed.
Monday, Feb. 10, was the fifth straight day students in the Hermann public schools have missed school. They were in session just one day last week.
So far, schools in the R-1 district have been closed 11 days because of bad weather.
The R-1 school board, which had already approved some make-up days at its January board meeting, will have to take up the issue again at its February meeting on Thursday. Prior to last week, the district had missed six days of school because of weather.
The administration will also have to set its graduation day, which is usually done in February.
The R-1 district will announce the updated school calendar after this Thursday’s school board meeting.
