Hermann girls top Union, tie for conference crown

Hermann’s girls, with some help from Sullivan, finished in a three-way tie for the Four Rivers Conference basketball championship last Thursday night.
The Lady Bearcats (23-1) rolled past Union, 69-35, at Hermann while Sullivan was handing St. James its first loss of the league season at Sullivan.
Hermann, Sullivan and St. James all finished with 6-1 FRC records. The Lady Bearcats defeated Sullivan on the road, while losing at home to St. James. The loss to St. James has been Hermann’s lone setback this season.
Hermann never buckled down against Union until the second half, when it outscored the Lady Wildcats 36-14 over the last two quarters.
The Lady Bearcats led 30-21 at the half, and poor free throw shooting continues to haunt them. The made 11 out of 21 for the game.
It was Senior Night for Karinne Lane, Jamie Gleeson, Kali Stiers, Hayley Stiers, Kara Kley and Kirsten Leimkuehler.
Four players scored in double figures for the Lady Bearcats, led by Lane with 15 points. She also added 10 assists and eight rebounds.
Gleeson scored 14 points, had five rebounds and four steals.
Juniors Tesla Ruediger and Makaley Schneider scored 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Hermann made 20 of 30 two-point baskets and was 6 out of 18 from behind the 3-point line.
Clark led Union with 14 points.
Hermann lost the junior varsity game, 35-14. Emily Engemann had eight points to lead Hermann.
