Top-seed Montgomery County needed an overtime to get past Winfield, 79-75, in the semifinals of the Class 3 District 6 basketball game at Hermann Thursday night. Then South Callaway knocked off three-time district champion O’Fallon Christian, 64-54, in the other district semifinal game on Thursday night.
Those two winners will meet Saturday, March 1, in the championship game that will tip off at 7 p.m.
Cameron Parrish, 6-3 senior, poured in 38 points to propel Montgomery County against Winfield, and his little brother, Chase, a 6-2 freshman, added 20 points in a sterling performance by the two Wildcats who are enjoying an outstanding season.
Winfield roared back after trailing 34-20 at the half, and put up 26 points in the third quarter to trail by nine heading into the final 8 minutes. The Warriors tacked on 20 more points in the final quarter to knot the score at 66-all at the end of regulation.
Cameron Parrish put the Wildcats on his back in the overtime, scoring 10 of his team’s 13 points in the extra session.
Igli Valcani led Winfield with 19 points and David Bauer chipped in 17. Damian Cagle and Jeremiah Duckett each had 16 for the Warriors.
Junior guard Cory Hanger scored 20 points as South Callaway moved into the district championship game. Hanger and Troy Hentges combined for 9 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Evan Marcks and Deantrell Prince scored 13 and12 points, respectively, for Christian, district champs for the past three seasons.
