    When the latest sales tax revenue figures arrived, Gasconade County Clerk Lesa Lietzow couldn’t help but be excited. “We’re turning cartwheels over sales tax” figures, she said during last week’s session of the County Commission.   • Hermann UMC to host Giving Room for kids

    Youngsters will be able to do some Christmas shopping for family members — at a very reasonable price — Saturday, Dec. 13, when Hermann United Methodist Church sponsors its Giving Room.   • Hermann ALCO closing its doors; will shutter sometime after Christmas

    Retailer ALCO is having a going-out-of-business sale. The Texas-based retailer will shutter “sometime after Christmas,” according to a store spokesman. The move comes after the company filed for bankruptcy protection. At City Hall, the news was met with disappointment. During Monday night’s Board of Aldermen meeting, Mayor Tom Shabel noted that ALCO’s closing means a loss of tax revenue and a loss of jobs for the community.

    The days on the calendar are quickly approaching the holiday season and a time when the citizens of Hermann have generously opened their hearts to the Hermann Community Food Pantry.
