The Webster University women’s basketball team opened its season with a 70-51 win over Dominican University of Illinois in the Cavallo Tip-Off Tournament at Grant Gymnasium on Nov. 15. Ashley Brooks, a junior point guard from Hermann, had 20 points to lead the Gorloks in the victory. Hermann ALCO closing its doors; will shutter sometime after Christmas

Retailer ALCO is having a going-out-of-business sale. The Texas-based retailer will shutter “sometime after Christmas,” according to a store spokesman. The move comes after the company filed for bankruptcy protection. At City Hall, the news was met with disappointment. During Monday night’s Board of Aldermen meeting, Mayor Tom Shabel noted that ALCO’s closing means a loss of tax revenue and a loss of jobs for the community.

    Last year, the Advertiser Courier ran a story about the St. Louis Area Foodbank and how it was soliciting donations in the Hermann area by stating they are feeding the hungry throughout Gasconade County. The fact is, say Hermann Food Pantry officials, they are not feeding the hungry throughout Gasconade County – they only support the Owensville Food Pantry, not the Hermann Area Food Pantry and their direct mail campaign
