Hermann ALCO closing its doors; will shutter sometime after Christmas

Retailer ALCO is having a going-out-of-business sale. The Texas-based retailer will shutter “sometime after Christmas,” according to a store spokesman. The move comes after the company filed for bankruptcy protection. At City Hall, the news was met with disappointment. During Monday night’s Board of Aldermen meeting, Mayor Tom Shabel noted that ALCO’s closing means a loss of tax revenue and a loss of jobs for the community.

This means it’s time for the annual “Turkey Challenge.” The Hermann Community Food Pantry Turkey Challenge started five years ago with a private donation of 100 turkeys.
