Anchored by five seniors, the Varsity Bearcats baseball squad will open the 2017 campaign Friday at Cuba — weather permitting, of course.
The JV ‘Cats, also, are scheduled to open their season at Cuba the same day.
That phrase — “weather permitting” — will be tossed about a good bit as the winter months give way to spring and hopefully dry weather.
Hermann fans are scheduled to get their first look at this year’s version of the team on its home field Monday when the ‘Cats host Wright City as part of the Four Rivers Classic Tournament.
After that appearance at Dick Ochsner Ball Field, the Bearcats will be away for about 10 days.
Leading the Varsity squad will be seniors Matt Wade, Gunner Krull, Kane Mendenhall, Hunter Scheidegger and Kody Hackmann.
This year’s schedule is titled slightly away from home — 12 away games and 10 home contests, not counting the Linn Tournament the third weekend of April and the Four Rivers Conference JV Tournament the first weekend of April.
The Bearcats finished the regular season last year with a mark of 10-15, the first year under Head Coach Wayland McKague.
