Cathi Utley is the general manager of the Hermann Advertiser-Courier.

Mother’s Day went well for you, I hope. My daughter’s 4-year-old and 7-year-old went shopping and bought her the most appreciated gift ever . . . a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal. Well, “she loves it” was their reasoning. Well done!
Another “M” day is going to be here this weekend. Maifest.
I was reminded that 4th Street will be closed and antique and vintage cars will be parked along it for your viewing pleasure during Maifest. Great, but what about our riding pleasure? Doug Smith, could you arrange rides around town in one of the beautifully restored classics? That would be great fun! That’s a grand idea for a fund raiser. I would be the first in line. Think about it, Doug. That’s all I’m asking.
Lots of other fun to be had during Maifest, one of my favorites, Deutschheim, is celebrating its 40th anniversary during Maifest with music, reenactments and much more. Can’t wait! I was so happy about it that I made a batch of Springerle cookies to celebrate. That was one of the reasons that I had such a good Mother’s Day. Quiet time to hone my Springerle cookie craft. It was blissful.
The Crusade Against Cancer is looking for items to auction off at the Celebration of Life on June 8. I’m told that in order to assist they must have the funds for the family during the time cancer shows its ugly head. Gas cards, food, hotel fees and the like are so important to have been taken care of when a loved is getting treatment. And yes, it all stays in the area! You don’t have to worry about how much of your donated money goes directly to the cause because it all does! 100 percent is used to help. Can I get an AMEN?
They need anything and everything for the auction. A homemade cake, jar of jelly, gift baskets, crafts or services are all gladly accepted. Hey, what about some Springlerle cookies? Who’s ready to bid on them?
Take a look at the Concert Hall ad in this week’s paper. 140-year anniversary; can you believe it? It kicks off on Wednesday and Thursday of this week so hurry up and get there if you love good BBQ. Get there Thursday if you’re a lady. Yes, “the ladies get drink specials and I am one lady who appreciates it.” (That was all said in my uppity, high society voice). Read that line again in an uppity way and then lick your chops thinking about the BBQ!
