It was almost as if the Lady Bulldogs of South Callaway were toying with the Hermann Lady Bearcats Friday night.
A close 1st quarter. A bit of an advantage by Hermann at the halftime break. An 8-point cushion for the Bearcats at the end of the 3rd quarter. A District Tournament title is in sight.
But in the final frame, South Callaway rained down bombs. Five 3-pointers highlighted the Lady Bulldogs’ 32-point 4th quarter that took the Class 3 District 9 title from the Bearcats 78-70.
Thus, the 2017-18 season for Hermann comes to a close in Westphalia, home of the Fatima High School Rockets, the host of this year’s local District Tournament.
Head Coach Todd Anderson’s team finishes the season with a most impressive mark of 23-5.
In what would be the Bearcats final game of the season, the two seniors on the squad stepped up in what would be the final game of their high school years.
Brooke Grosse hit 4 3-pointers on the night to go along with 5 other buckets and a pair of free throws for a team-high 24 points.
Tess Schannuth went 8-for-8 at the foul line and sank three buckets for 14 points.
Junior guard Allison Stiers also finished scoring in double figures, registering 10 points. Stiers also topped the team in rebounds with 8, including 6 off the defensive boards. She also posted 7 assists on the night.
Other ‘Cats contributing to the scoring include Quincy Erickson with 9, Emma Godat with 6 and Caraline Brune with 5.
As a team, Hermann had a very good night at the free-throw line going 16-for-18.
