It has been a particularly troubling flu season thus far for Gasconade County Health Department officials.
“Like the rest of the country, Gasconade County has also been hit hard during this flu season,” said Greg Lara, administrator of the county health agency.
He noted that in December there were 240 lab-confirmed cases of influenza reported to the Health Department; in the first half of January, there were another 50 cases confirmed.
“Cases are still begin reported,” he said. “Exact numbers are not known as all persons are not tested and not everyone who gets sick sees medical care.
“All areas of the county have been affected. Ages have ranged from 4 weeks to 90-plus years,” Lara said. “There have been five deaths related to influenza — all in the frail elderly. There have been a couple children who were hospitalized.”
