During the last few months at Hermann Middle School, the students have been doing a great job giving back to the community! In October the students collected socks for Socktober and then in November they had a canned food drive. The food drive was hosted by the Hermann Middle School Honor Society. The food drive started on October 31st and ended on November 14th. The students had to bring in as many canned food items as they could and try to fill up Ms. Buschmann’s office. The students were very successful! There was a competition between all the grades to see who could bring in the most canned food items. The eighth-grade students ended up bringing in the most and they earned an extra recess for their prize. The Honor Society transported all of the canned goods to a local food pantry.
In other HMS news, all the students were very excited to see Ms. Buschmann, principal of HMS, perform a song at our Student of the Month assembly. The students brought in over 500 pairs of socks for Socktober, which meant that Ms. Buschmann would have to sing in front of the entire student body. Ms. Buschmann split up parts of the song so that the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders could all participate in the song. The students loved that they were able to participate and sing along with Ms. Buschmann. Ms. Buschmann said, “It helped that the students sang along.” She also said how she was glad she was able to model that it is okay to go out of your comfort zone when performing the song. The students at HMS are doing a wonderful job giving back to our community!
