Teachers and staff at Hermann Elementary School are continuing the scholarship program they began several years ago.
Teachers and staff donate money annually to fund a special scholarship to assist college students enrolled in an education program. The assistance will be in the form of a one-time cash scholarship and is available to former graduates of Hermann High School.
Eligibility for the scholarship is unlike most scholarships typically intended for graduating high school seniors; the Hermann Elementary scholarship is only available to college students who have been accepted into a teacher education program, typically college juniors, but sometimes sophomores, or even college seniors.
The application deadline has been extended until Monday, Dec. 4, with the announcement of the scholarship recipient(s) to take place at Hermann Elementary’s 1st- and 2nd-Grade Winter Concert on Dec. 7.
“Individuals pursuing a career in education are special and work diligently in their teacher education programs. Once you enter a teacher education program in college, you are pretty committed to entering the teaching profession. You’re goal becomes helping children learn each day,” says elementary Principal Kendra Brune.
“This scholarship is our way of thanking Hermann graduates who are actively pursuing a career in education and are interested in becoming a teacher. It is our hope that many will return here after graduation and become part of the Bearcat teaching team. Currently two of the past recipients are working in our school district,” she said.
Applications and eligibility information are available at the Gasconade R-1 Schools Central Office, at the Hermann High School guidance counselor’s office and on the school district’s website at hermann.k12.mo.us.
