A straight-set victory Saturday over St. Michael gave the Hermann Lady Bearcats 3rd Place in the Class 2 Final Four Tournament in Cape Girardeau.
The Lady ‘Cats were bumped to the 3rd-Place after a split with Strafford in pool play last Saturday afternoon in the opening matches of the Final Four.
That split came after a straight-set loss to St. Pius X of Festus — last year’s Class 2 Champions who successfully defended their title to reign for another year.
The Lady Bearcats fell to St. Pius in the title match last year.
In the St. Michael contest — won by the Bearcats on scores of 25-17 and 25-10 — senior Symantha Fredrick led the Hermann attack. She was credited with 16 attacks and 6 kills.
Leading the team in terms of kill shots was senior Brooke Grosse and junior Emma Godat with 7 kills each.
Grosse had 14 attacks while Godat had 8.

Junior Allison Stiers posted 19 assists in the match. The only other assists were by Schannuth, who had 14 8.
In Friday’s pool play, it was the split with Strafford, from Southwest Missouri, that kept Hermann out of the title game.
Strafford claimed the first set 25-15, but the Lady Bearcats roared back in the second, posting a 25-21 win.
In this contest, Hermann was only 3 attacks short of 100 for the 2-set match.
Schannuth set the pace in this contest, leading in attacks with 22. Stiers and Fredrick were right behind with 20 attacks each.
Schannuth had 8 kill shots while Fredryck had 4 kills and Stiers had 3 kills.
Stiers topped the team in assist with 15; Schannuth was credited with setting up 9 scoring shots.
Head Coach Linda Lampkin’s Varsity Bearcats close the book on the 2017 season with an overall mark of 31-7-2.
