Gasconade County R-1 Special Services Director Missy Ash, right, talks with U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt of Missouri during this year’s Special Olympics at Bearcats Stadium. Blunt is a longtime supporter of public education special services.

Two local organizations teamed up at their food stands this year during the Wurstfest weekend and earmarked their proceeds for the Hermann Area Special Olympics. When the damp, two-day weekend was over, the Hermann Lions Club and Masonic Lodge had raised $800 for special-needs athletes.
It was the first time the two organizations had combined their efforts for the same cause.
At the Lions Club meeting on March 28, with donations also coming from Daggett Masonic Lodge at McKittrick and the Owensville Lions Club, a total of $1,800 was presented to Missy Ash for this year’s local Special Olympics, to be held Friday, May 5.
