The Hermann German-American Club is sponsoring the Mother’s Day Show, “Celebrating Mothers,” on Saturday, May 13, at 7 p.m. Tickets are now on sale at the 1906 Firehouse on Market Street.
Rehearsals are under way for this popular event that celebrates Mom’s special day. Talented singers, dancers and musicians will perform a variety of music from Broadway plays, movies and hit tunes.
Carrie Tilly of Peoria, Illinois, formerly of Hermann, once again is heading up the program and will share the Show Boat stage with other Hermann performers.
Three St. George School students are members of the cast: veterans 8th-Grader Kampbell Hemeyer and 4th-Grader Coulter Schwartze, and newcomer 7-year-old Aspen Meyer.
Hermann High School sophomore Sam Holland is back for a fifth appearance and Kris Hemeyer will return to sing a duet with her daughter Kampbell.
The cast is happy to welcome three other performers this year, Carrie’s brother, Terry Kirchhofer, LaNette Kotthoff and Vernon Kohlbusch. Vernon is a well-known Hermann singer and jokester, LaNette is a fixture on the Hermann stage, while Terry is fulfilling a “bucket list” wish to perform at the Show Boat.
Returning musicians are John Berkemeyer, Bob Kirchhofer, LeRoy Schwartze and Patrick Dell. Dancers are Jim and Bonnie Oncken and Mel and Pat Propst.
Show tickets are $12.50 for adults and $8 for students 13-18 years of age. Children 12 and under will be admitted free of charge. Tickets will be sold at the 1906 Firehouse until the afternoon of the show. Then they will be sold at the theatre box office beginning at 6 p.m.
Proceeds from the show benefit the Hermann German-American Club’s efforts to promote, foster and encourage understanding, good will, cooperation and common interests with the citizens of Hermann’s sister city, Bad Arolsen, Germany, and to offer financial assistance for exchange programs between these cities.
Eighteen adults from our sister city, including five musicians, will be visiting Hermann in October to share in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the sister-city partnership and the German-American Club will contribute funds toward this visit.
The fifth annual event will be held at the Show Boat Theatre on West 4th Street. Anyone wishing to join the German-American Club, or renew their membership, may do so at the show.
