On account of rain, the ground celebration of German Day at Morrison, which was to be held Saturday, has been postponed to next Saturday.

School notes – the present enrollment in the grade school is 306, and of the high school 48. A German class of 20, who will make a critical study of “William Tell” has been organized. Mr. Elbring, who is very efficient in the German classics, will be instructor.

The circus, elephants and all, of the Honest Bill Shows, will come from the north side of the river Saturday morning, the first boatload to arrive at 8 AM.

The bricklayers have begun their work on the new bank building in Berger.

Elmar H Simon has been chosen a member of the 100 piece 1948 football band at Kansas State College, Manhattan, Kansas. Following the great season, members of the football band form the concert and varsity bands.

Hermann high school district #3 on sealed bid competition, submitted by six bidders, bids ranging from $150-$626, sold the 2 1/2 acre Frene Creek school site and school building south of Hermann near Highway 19 to Elmer Meyer, highest bidder at $626.

John Wieschhau will be awarded scout teens highest award, the Eagle badge, at the court of honor held by Troop 116 in St. George high school tonight.

Otto Eberlin, a 62 year veteran of the Hermann fire company has been named senior firemen of Missouri and will be honored in ceremonies in Jefferson City Monday.

The Missouri River reached its 12th floor crest of the year late Tuesday at 27.0 feet, 6 feet over the 21 foot flood stage.

Stone Hill Wine Company’s annual Winefest will be held each Saturday in October, it was announced by Jim Held, president of the winemaking firm, who said festive activities are planned.

The annual Herman arts and crafts fair, sponsored by the Brush and Pallette Club , will be held Sunday at the Hermann city park.

Miss Jeanne Winkelmann was crowned 1973 barn warming queen at the Hermann FFA chapter’s annual barn warming.

The Hermann Bearcats reported their first victory of the season Friday night as they spoiled the St. James Tigers homecoming with a 60 battle of the mud triumph on the tiger’s rain soaked field.

Herman Rod and gun club’s annual trophy’s shoot was Saturday, September 23.
